Regardless, this current news should be a lot easier for long-time Coen fans to appreciate. John Goodman is strongly rumored for a role in the film, which would make this his fifth collaboration with the Coens after Raising Arizona, Barton Fink, The Big Lebowski and O Brother, Where Art Thou?. (Or sixth, if you count his small role as a newsreel announcer in The Hudsucker Proxy.)
Roger Friedman says that Goodman will be in the new film, which is based in part on Dave Van Ronk's book The Mayor McDougal Street, which chronicles the folk scene in '60s New York.
Oscar Isaac already has the lead role with Carey Mulligan playing another significant part. Justin Timberlake has been offered a role named Jim, which is the husband of a woman named Jean, to be played by Mulligan.
It's a good year for Goodman. He's in the well-liked festival hit The Artist, which is almost certain to get some Oscar love. And he's in Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, as well as the occasional episode of Community.
Casting Bits: Nicole Kidman Options ?The Family Fang?, Olivia Wilde, Jessica Biel, Judy Greer, Etc. Shortlisted for ?Burt Wonderstone?, Shiloh Fernandez Joins ?The East?
Nicole Kidman's Blossom Films and Olympus Films have teamed up to acquire the movie rights for Kevin Wilson's bestselling book The Family Fang, which they plan to develop as a starring vehicle for Kidman. The two companies previously collaborated on Rabbit Hole, for which Kidman received a Best Actress Oscar nomination.
Wilson's debut novel centers around a couple of performance artists who regularly incorporate their unwilling children into their bizarre acts. Years later, misfortune prompts the now-grown son and daughter to return home, where they find their parents gearing up for one final masterpiece. [Deadline ]
After the jump, New Line pulls together an intriguing shortlist for Burt Wonderstone's female lead, and The East's terrorist organization gets one more member.
With stars Jim Carrey and Steve Carell firmly in place, the magician comedy Burt Wonderstone is now seeking a female lead. New Line has put together a shortlist of actresses who could star in the unspecified role, includingOlivia Wilde, Michelle Monaghan, Judy Greer, Sarah Silverman and Jessica Biel. It's an interesting mix of actresses -- while Wilde, Monaghan, and Biel seem like more typical love interest types, Silverman and Greer are usually cast for their comedic chops. Which isn't to say the former group can't be funny or that the latter can't be pretty and charming, but I don't think it happens often that, say, Biel and Silverman are up for the same job. (Personally, I'm pulling for the very talented, very funny Greer.)
Directed by 30 Rock's Don Scardino, Burt Wonderstone follows a Vegas magician (Carell) who breaks up with his stage partner and finds himself upstaged by a younger, hipper illusionist. [Deadline ]
Shiloh Fernandez has boarded the cast of The East, which is being directed by Zal Batmanglij from a script by Batmanglij and Brit Marling. The film stars Marling as an agent from a private security firm who's tasked with infiltrating an ecoterrorist organization known as The East. However, she finds herself falling for its leader, played by Alexander Skarsgard. Fernandez will play free-spirited, sexually adventurous member of the group. As previously reported, the thriller will also featureEllen Page as another member of The East and Skarsgard's ex, Patricia Clarkson as Marling's boss, and Toby Kebbell as a doctor. Production on The East is expected to begin shortly.
Fernandez most recently starred Catherine Hardwicke's Red Riding Hood opposite Amanda Seyfried, and will next appear in Syrup with Amber Heard, Kellan Lutz, and Brittany Snow. [Variety ]
feels like life is finally coming into focus. learning how to Trust and it's given me the freedom to just be.
On defense, the Giants have used him as a starting third baseman, first baseman, and, for a short period, as a catcher for pitcher Barry Zito, who gave Sandoval the nickname Kung Fu Panda. He received the nickname after a play on September 19, 2008, where he scored a run against the Los Angeles Dodgers by jumping over the tag of catcher Danny Ardoin, scoring from second base on a single by Bengie Molina.[cita
I always wondered how specifically Pablo Sandoval got the name "Kung Fu Panda".
TV Bits: ?Shameless? and ?Magic City? Trailers, Plus: ?Person of Interest?, ?Homeland?, ?Damages?, ?Boss?, ?Pan Am?, ?2 Broke Girls?
There's some bad and some good in today's TV Bits, but I'd say there's more of the latter -- more Shameless, more Homeland, more Jennifer Coolidge, and Olga Kurylenko in late '50s Miami all count as pluses, right? After the jump:
Showtime's Shameless get a Season 2 trailer -- and invites fans to play Truth or Dare with one of the characters
Starz debuts a trailer for Magic City, starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Olga Kurylenko, and Danny Huston
CBS gives full season orders to Unforgettable and Person of Interest
Showtime renews freshman series Homeland
Jennifer Coolidge signs on for CBS' 2 Broke Girls
Jenna Elfman boards the fifth season of DirecTV's Damages
Starz' Boss loses its two showrunners
ABC's Pan Am gets a new showrunner
First, let's take a look at some teasers...
It's been seven long months for fans of Shameless, Showtime's series about the out-of-control Gallagher family, but their patience will be rewarded soon(ish). With the second season is set to premiere January 8, 2012, the network has begun releasing teasers showing that, nope, these miscreants haven't changed one bit.
[via Zap2It ]
In addition, Showtime will be releasing an interactive web series revolving around the oldest brother, Lip Gallagher (Jeremy Allen White). Fans can play truth or dare with the character by submitting either truth questions or dares to Lip via Facebook or Twitter , using the hashtags #liptruth or #lipdare. The network will select their favorite requests and film Lip either answering the questions or doing the dares in up to ten webisodes.[The Hollywood Reporter ]
We also have the first trailer for Starz' Magic City, a period drama set in 1959 Miami. Jeffrey Dean Morgan stars as Ike Evans, a hotelier with mob connections, with Olga Kurylenko playing his wife and Danny Huston a mob boss. The teaser starts out looking like the California-set episodes of Mad Men, and then moves into some more violent territory that makes it seem like, I don't know, a more lighthearted Boardwalk Empire? See for yourself:
Magic City will premiere this spring on Starz. [Deadline ]
Moving right along to the pickups: CBS has given full season orders to its first-year dramas Unforgettable andPerson of Interest, which have been doing quite well in the ratings despite lackluster reviews.A Gifted Man is now the only new CBS show whose future remains uncertain, as 2 Broke Girls has already been picked up and How to Be a Gentleman has been cancelled (twice ). [Vulture ]
Meanwhile, Showtime has renewed its CIA thriller Homeland for a second season, following four well-received episodes. The show has only increased its viewership since it debuted to 4.4 million viewers across all platforms, and has become the network's highest-rated freshman drama. Production on the 12-episode seaon is scheduled to begin next spring. [Variety ]
And now, for some casting.
Jenna Elfman, formerly of Accidentally on Purpose andDharma & Greg, has joined the cast of DirecTV's Damages for its fifth and final season. Elfman will play a bank employee who may reveal some unsavory truths about her employers. Also set to appear in the upcoming season are Ryan Phillippe and John Hannah. The legal drama, which stars Glenn Close and Rose Byrne, will return in summer 2012. [TVOvermind ]
Over at CBS, Jennifer Coolidge has signed on for a recurring role on 2 Broke Girls, which stars Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs as twentysomething waitresses living in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. She'll play the girls' hardworking new neighbor Sophie, a character that was created specifically for Coolidge. I'm pretty much always happy to see Coolidge, so she sounds like a great addition to the show.
Also appearing on the comedy will be Marsha Thomason (White Collar), who'll drop in during November sweeps to play a romantic rival to Dennings' character.[Deadline , Zap2It ]
Finally, let's talk about some showrunner shake-ups. Starz' Boss has lost its two executive producers/co-showrunners Richard Levine and Lyn Greene, just after the series premiered earlier this week. Creator/executive producer Farhad Safinia apparently on board. The drama, which stars Kelsey Grammar as a Chicago mayor who's been diagnosed with a degenerative neurological disorder, has received generally positive reviews, and was renewed for a second season last month. (Yup, it was renewed before the premiere ever aired.)
Boss' other executive producers include Grammer, director Gus Van Sant, Brian Sher, and Stella Bulochnikov. The search for a new writing executive producer is already underway. [Deadline ]
And ABC's period drama Pan Am has found a new showrunner in TV vet Steven Maeda, who previously worked on CSI: Miami, Miami Medical, and Lie to Me. He also served as co-executive producer and writer for the second season of Lost, during which the series won Writers Guild of America awards for Best Dramatic Series. Pan Am has yet to receive a back-nine order, but especially now that Maeda's involved, it's probably likely to get picked up soon. [The Hollywood Reporter ]

A Filipino Christmas SongLechon roasting on an open fire
Lumpia's frying on the stove.
Aunties in the corner
Saying Tsis-mis with pride
Like they are always in the know.Everybody knows
Isn't Chocolate Meat
And if it was
It wouldn't taste quite rightCuz this Christmas
Is also about the food
You'd find on a Filipino

Santa's on his way
While we're at
Trying to PrayBut thoughts are back at home
About the warm

To dig right in

A little cajoling from a clever developer got Siri talking to the iPhone 4 and the iPad, but Apple's tight-lipped servers kept the conversation effectively one-sided. The last-gen port was still missing something, and developer Steven Troughton-Smith knew where to find it: a jailbroken iPhone 4S. In an interview with 9to5Mac, Troughton-Smith said that getting Siri to talk to Cupertino's data servers only took ten minutes after he had all of the pieces in place. Ready for your personal assistant port? Hold the phone, the process is a bit dodgy -- our hacking hero said that getting Siri on the older device is a 20-step process, and it requires files from the iPhone 4S that he says aren't his to distribute. When asked about distributing the hack over Cydia, Troughton-Smith said it was something he couldn't be a part of. On Twitter he suggested that a release would "anger the hive," but promised to post detailed notes on the hack after a iPhone 4S jailbreak drops.

Believe it or not, in an interview with MTV News , Tom Hiddleston revealed he was also up for the role of Thor. He also calls The Avengers "ginormous " but won't comment on The Skrulls.
Hiddleston also spoke to the Los Angeles Times about The Avengers and went on to talk about Joss Whedon's laugh. Here's a sample:
The brain power is astonishing and he?salways giggling about something. He has this intermittently generous and supportive side as a director but I also think as an artist he has a really dark sense of humor. He kept telling me how much fun he had writing Loki. He steps inside the villains in a way that he doesn?t with the heroes.
